How this works & assumptions
The three verdicts
- POSSIBLE: at least 80% of shots score and the motor runs under 92% of its free speed.
- NOT CONSISTENT: 40–80% score, or the motor is near its limit.
- WON'T WORK: no clean arc, the motor can't reach the speed, or under 40% score.
Ball flight
Each arc is integrated with air drag (CD 0.45) and backspin lift (CL = 0.2 · min(spin ratio, 1)) measured on 26-hole pickleball-style balls like Pollen and Nectar. The ball has to pass cleanly through the CELL mouth; touching any edge, the frame, another CELL or a wall counts as a miss.
Hit rate
Your robot never shoots perfectly. Each shot is off by random amounts in launch angle, aim and exit speed (the precision setting). Speed scatter also grows when the motor has little headroom or the flywheel hasn't recovered from the last shot. The hit rate is the share of those shots that still score.
Field
HIVE and CELL geometry follows the 2026–27 Competition Manual (§9.6) and the Event Field Setup Guide; the field is the measured 141 in between wall faces. Match start has the red upward CELL on the audience side; every TIP flips it.
Motors & flywheel
- All eleven goBILDA 5203 Yellow Jacket motors (8 mm REX shaft). The 5204 versions with the 80 mm REX shaft have the same specs.
- Usable free speed is 97% of the listed rpm (goBILDA tests the 1:1 motor at 5,800 of 6,000 rpm).
- Each shot drains about twice the ball's energy from the flywheel; recovery follows the motor's torque–speed line at full power.
- Wheel inertia values are estimates (±25%); exit efficiency is adjustable under Advanced.
